Nigerians dominate
Wellington Jighere (Nig) wins the four-day African championships, held in Accra, Ghana. He finishes on 21 wins (out of 30 games) and a spread of 1700. Eta Karo (Nig) also wins 21 games, but with 400 points less spread. The top dozen finishers were almost entirely Nigerian. One weekend later, another Nigerian, Moses Peter, comes out top in the Godswill Akpabio International Classic, held in Uyo, Nigeria. Moses finishes on 18 wins (out of 24), two ahead of his fellow Nigerians Ayorinde Saidu and Chinedu Okwelogu, and three ahead of current world champion Pakorn Nemitrmansuk (Thai).
