The Player's Cup - Announcement
The Player's Cup is a worldwide knockout competition. It is split into nations (or groups
of nations) which each have their own knockout tournament and winner. Matches are straight head-to-head matches over a number of games. The winner goes through, the loser is knocked out of the
whole competition.

Once each nation (or group of nations) has its winner then those numbers will be reduced to 8. This
will done based on number of entrants and geography. Winners from a local competition involving
multiple nations and having a high number of entrants may go straight through into the Final Eight.
From those 8 there will be at least one player from each of North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and
Australasia. These 8 will then meet in one location in 2017 and play quarter finals, semi finals and a
final over the course of a week with some/all expenses paid. Games will be live streamed with
commentary. The 8 may be expanded to 16 if it is feasible.
There are two prize funds, a local fund which pays prizes to those in the local competition (ie at the
national stage), which will also include the prize for the local winner which is separate to whatever
is won at the finals. The international prize fund will cover some expenses for travel, if necessary,
as well as prizes at the Final Eight stage. Money will be raised through a number
of other avenues to help cover travel costs at the international stage.
A total of 501 entries paying $20US each per round would generate a $20,000US total prize fund,
with $10,000US of that going towards the Final Eight stage. This is obviously heavily simplified.
The maths for those who're interested (501 entries requires 500 matches with each match
eliminating one player. Each match has two players, so two entry fees of $20. So 500 matches x 2
players x $20 entry fee = $20,000)
Details of the Final Eight stage and national knockout competitions will be decided in due course.
So far details of the British Isles and Hong Kong competition are finalised with many more to come shortly. Website to follow in due course.
