Scrabble Association of Ghana and the MindGames Incorporated (MGI) are happy to announce the WESPAC Championship (WESPAC) and the World Team Scrabble Championship (WTSC) to be held in Ghana from the 7th-16th November 2025.
The 9-day Scrabble fiesta will start with the arrival of players on the 7th of November 2025.
The World Team Scrabble Championship (WTSC) will commence on Saturday the 8th of November 2025 and conclude on Monday, 10th November 2025. Teams will play in a group format, and the top teams will proceed to the knock-out stages. Member associations of WESPA will receive communication from WTSC organizers inviting them to register for this historic event.
Akwaaba (Early Bird) tournament, a 10-round 1-day event, will run concurrently with the games on the final day of the WTSC i.e. 10th November 2025. We welcome all players to partake in the Akwaaba event, including those from teams that have dropped out of the WTSC.
The Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) will be played on Tuesday, 11th November 2025. This event is for players who have not qualified to represent their country at WESPAC. They will have the opportunity to participate in the main WESPAC event by finishing in the upper 20% of the field.
The WESPAC Main event will commence on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, and end on Saturday, 16th November 2025. 32 games will be played to determine the players that will play in the finals. The best of 7 games final will hold on Sunday, 16th November 2025.
The Sika (Gold) 16-game tournament, Sankofa (Invictus) 8-game tournament, and the Adinkra (Hearts) 8-game tournament will all run side-by-side with WESPAC. Players who do not qualify to represent their countries are invited to participate at these side events.

Announcement on Collins Scrabble Words 2024 Edition, from the WESPA Committee
We are pleased to announce to the Scrabble community that Collins have designated August 15, 2024 as the release date for the updated 2024 edition of Collins Scrabble Words. As with previous releases, Collins with have a discount code for tournament Scrabble players to use when purchasing a physical copy of the book; more details on this will follow.
The WESPA Committee have voted to make this new edition of Collins Scrabble Words effective for tournament play worldwide beginning on January 1, 2025. An Initiation Kit from WESPA on the new words will be available soon after the new edition’s release, and we will be working with app developers to update the word list in their apps. We also expect that an updated version of Collins Zyzzyva will be available in the fall for word study and adjudication.
We expect this update to contain 1816 additions, with 847 of them being words of length 3-8. There are no anticipated deletions.
I am pleased with this update — I think WESPA’s collaboration with Collins went really well, and I’m looking forward to playing with the new words in 2025!
